Frequently asked questions.
General Sugaring Questions:
Does Sugaring hurt?
Put simply, yes, BUT it does get less painful with consistent visits. Any time you are pulling the hair from its’ root, there will be some pain involved. With each visit your hair will becomes thinner and much more sparse, leaviating some of the pain. As long as you’re consistent, a visit will never be as painful as your first time! I like to use the anecdote, “The first time is like uprooting tree trunks, while the fourth time is like plucking flower petals!”
What is the difference between Waxing and Sugaring?
There are quite a few! Wax is applied hot, sugar is applied at room temperature so there is no chance of getting burned. With wax, you remove the hair against the hair growth which could cause more chances for breaking the hairs = ingrown hair. With sugar, we remove the hair WITH the hair growth, making the hair easily slide out of the follicle. Most wax is made with chemicals and resins, when removing the hair it will take the hair, dead skin cells, AND live skin cells with each strip. With sugar, it only takes the hair and the dead skin cells, which is another reason why sugaring is less painful than waxing in general.
Is Sugaring permanent?
While I cannot guarantee permanency, our goal with each visit is to remove the hair during the correct hair cycle, essentially killing the follcile itself. You will notice much more sparse hair growth due to this at the least.
Before Your Appointment:
Please remember to:
Avoid using any lotions, oils, and/or deodorants on the area that will be sugared. Sunburnt skin cannot be sugared. Please come in loose fitting clothing for the area that fill be sugared. Try to refrain from caffeine before your appointment, it will make you more sensitive. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Taking an Ibuprofen 30 minutes prior has been shown to alleviate some of the pain.
How long should my hair be to be sugared?
Drop the razor for at the very least, 2 weeks. If you have been getting waxed or sugared elsewhere, please wait at least 3 weeks from your last appointment to make an appointment to come see me.
Can I get a Bikini service if I come in on my menstrual cycle?
Yes! As long as you’re comfortable with the situation. Generally, your skin will be more sensitive during this time so you may choose to wait to make an appointment for a few days after. If you do choose to come in while on your period, we ask that you please come in with a fresh tampon/menstrual cup.
After Your Appointment:
How long will my Sugaring results last?
It will be different for everyone! Each persons hair grows at different rates depending on many factors (genetics, physical activity, seasons, etc), but I can guarantee it will keep you smoother longer than the razor does!
How often should I exfoliate and moisturize?
Do not start until 48 hours after your service. Exfoliate: 2-3 times a week
Moisturize: Every day! If starting out everyday is too much for you, at least make sure to do it on the days that you’re exfoliating.
